For starters, they received one of the first production examples of the new Hellcat-powered pickup. Starting with their own 2.65-liter supercharger, extensive tuning at their quarter-mile track and on the street has yielded an increase of 310 horsepower and 319 lb-ft over the factory ratings.

• 0-60 mph: 3.2 seconds
• 1/4 mile: 11.4 seconds @ 120 mph

Due to the comprehensive nature of each build, only 200 examples will be offered. Each will arrive with a 2.5″ lift, 35″ tires, and their iconic 20″ wheels. The rocker panel steps and tonneau cover are powered, and their full-length stainless exhaust sings a menacing melody. Including delivery, all you need to offer is $135,350- making it one of the most affordable ways to reach 1,012 horsepower. The 2-year/24k warranty is a testament to their build quality, so click the button for all the details.

Close your eyes and envision an English sports car from the 1960s. Those of you who chose incorrectly can leave now, because the 2021 Jaguar F-Type Heritage 60 celebrates six decades of the E-Type. Perhaps the most easily identifiable silhouette in the automotive world, Enzo Ferrari said the 1961 Jaguar E-Type was “the most beautiful car ever made”. A car of firsts, it pioneered the use of a front subframe bolted to a unibody cockpit. Weighing in at under 2,900 lbs made it competitive against the best cars in the world.

Its not a body kit. Nearly every aspect of the Challenger is exaggerated in order to hide massive rubber inside the fenders. From its debut on the SRT Hellcat Redeye, buyers who didnt need 797 horsepower were forced to forego the aggressive styling. The sound that exits the exhaust of a Porsche 911 GT3 is best described as music to our ears. Porsche has taken that statement quite literally with their newly designed limited edition soundbar. The Porsche Design Studio’s 911 Special Edition Soundbar is presented using an actual rear muffler off of a Porsche 911 GT3. An aesthetically pleasing black gloss finish has been added to the soundbar to compliment any home.

The system includes Dolby Atmos, 300 watts of power, and 4-K compatible HDMI connection with the ability to stream audio through Spotify Connect and Chromecast. A white base plate holds the black GT3 muffler, making the contemporary color combination an eye capturing example. The Porsche Design Studio 911 Soundbar will be released in December and limited to 500 pieces for the price of $4,750. A collector piece for any Porsche or audio enthusiast looking for a unique addition for home entertainment.

More extensive personalization options and new advanced technology features are among a range of new options now available to order on the Porsche Taycan.

The Taycan is the first purely battery-electric Porsche sports car and since first going on sale last September has impressed customers and enthusiasts with its combination of an authentic Porsche driving experience and performance from its innovative 800-volt drivetrain.

There are new interior finishes too with Blackberry and two-tone options for the leather and leather-free upholstery choices. In addition, Exclusive Manufaktur and custom tailoring options have been extended to include contrasting leather seat centers and contrast stitching.

To ensure that the refresh is more than skin deep, a range of technical enhancements are designed to appeal to both keen drivers and boost livability. These include optimized battery performance and improved charging. Additional innovations include features that can be flexibly booked online via a new Functions on Demand (FoD) service and the option of a head-up display in color.

2021 Porsche Taycan 3

In the case of the Taycan Turbo S, the battery optimization sees the car’s acceleration improve further still. With Launch Control, it now can sprint from 0-124 mph in 9.6 seconds, undercutting the previous time by 0.2 seconds. It blasts through the quarter-mile in 10.7 seconds (previously 10.8 seconds). As before, the Taycan can undertake successive launches without any drop in performance.

Charging while maintaining the battery is an extra new function. It can restrict the charging capacity at 350 kW Ultra Rapid chargers (e.g. Ionity high-power 800-volt charging stations) from a maximum of 270 kW to around 200 kW when customers are planning to take a longer break from driving. Drivers can select the desired charging mode on the central display.

2021 Porsche Taycan 4

Further new intelligent charging functions are usable in conjunction with Mobile Charger Connect and Home Energy Manager. These involve the power guard function, which is now able to prevent an overload of the domestic connection, as well as optimized charging with energy produced domestically. This function enables the Taycan to charge using solar energy generated by the home. Once the deliberately configurable, minimum battery charge level has been reached, the system uses only solar energy that is not needed by the building.

2021 F-150 Adds Hybrid, Confirms Full Electric Version

It’s only been five years since the last major redesign of the Ford F-150, not a long time historically in the truck world, but with competition heating up both in the traditional competitors and newcomers, Ford is pushing forward with the introduction of the all-new 2021 F-150, a remake of its best-selling and most lucrative model.

2021 Ford F-150, Ford, news, full-size pickup, electric pickup, hybrid pickup, electrification

A new look for the F-150 (1 of 11)

The goal of the introduction this week, hosted by Ford spokesperson Dennis Leary and featuring a variety of Ford employees and F-150 customers, was to show that Ford is well-aware that its industry-leading position (best-selling truck for the past 43 years) is not something assumed, but an achievement to be re-earned every year. The 2021 Ford F-150 has a very simple goal—maintain and expand that market lead for another year or two.

Highlights of the introduction (some detail below) included the presentation of a new full hybrid model and confirmation that a full-electric version is coming. The other big takeaway is that electrification in a pickup take a significantly different form that in a sedan. In a truck application, the emphasis of a large battery is less on propulsion and zero emission miles than on providing a mobile power source for tools and toys.

Next year’s F-150, which will go on sale this fall, follows the typical pickup mold of offering a dizzying number of options in an attempt to provide a potential pickup for every possible buyer. The completely redesigned truck (every one of the aluminum exterior panel is new) will offer six engines, 13 different wheels and 11 grille options in a half-dozen trim levels.

Fuel Economy Focus

2021 Ford F-150

Aerodynamics & tough pickups don’t always go together

Although no official fuel economy numbers are available, Ford pointed out that it was the most aerodynamic pickup the company has ever designed, employing grille shutters, a new automatically deploying air dam and new cab and tailgate geometry to reduce drag and reduce fuel consumption on all models.

The new hybrid F-150 will use an all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, augmented by a 35-kW/47-horsepower electric motor. A 10-speed transmission and 1.5 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery (mounted between the frame rails so it doesn’t take up any passenger or cargo space) complete the powertrain.

The all-electric F-150 will come in 2022, according to Ford COO Jim Farley. When it arrives, it will likely face several competitors, including the Rivian R1T, GMC Hummer, Tesla Cybertruck, Lordstown Endeavor and Nikola Badger.

Electrification on the Job

Back to the present, Ford sees electric power as another tool for the job. The 2021 F-150 will come up with up to 7.2 kilowatts (kW) of exportable power, enough to run a generator and a variety of power tools through 120-volt and/or 240-volt outlets.

2021 Ford F-150

Plugs for all your jobs

Inside Ford has added a variety of high-tech features that point out how mainstream the modern pickup has become. One clever addition is that, with a few quick shifts of hardware, the center console can become a desk big enough to hold a laptop. Above that center console half of the F-150 lineup will have 12.0-inch touchscreen displays, matching what’s becoming the standard for the segment. The display will come equipped with Sync4, the latest version of Ford’s infotainment system. Ten new advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are going to be available.

Recognizing the variety of uses a truck might undergo, Ford has designed the front seats to recline 180 degrees, so not only is the pickup and office, but also a bedroom. Under the backseat is a lockable storage unit for stashing away valuables or expensive tools.

The Most List

What a pickup needs is a most list and Ford has drawn up a long one. The stated goal of the 2021 F-150 is to be able to tow the biggest load in its class, carry the heaviest payload, have the most horsepower and torque and also have the longest range.

2021 Ford F-150

More tech than seen in a pickup before

Don’t expect the competition to take this lying down, but Ford also had other news last week that went well beyond the news about the redesign of its best-selling product. The company laid out a goal of becoming of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 with three areas of focus that account for  95 peercent of the companies CO2 emissions:

  • Vehicle use
  • Supply base
  • Facilities

On the vehicle side, it’s putting $11.5 billion through 2022 into the Mustang Mach-E, Transit Commercial and fully electric F-150. It expects all of its manufacturing plants to use 100 percent locally sourced renewable energy by 2035.

Reinventing Two Wheels

The electric motorcycle has reignited an optimism in design the likes of which we haven’t seen in over a century. The very structure of the motorcycle we’ve come to know is largely rooted in its function, a fuel tank gravity feeding gasoline to an internal combustion engine. As is often the case, the evolution of technology is redrawing the boundaries of expression and those of us who love the motorcycle are enjoying our front row seat of the renaissance.

Fuller Motor 2029 electric motorcycle

A blast from the past

Nearly a century ago, a designer named Georges Roy set out to revolutionize two-wheeled transportation with a motorcycle called the Majestic. It was meant to usher in a new era of elegance and comfort–evolving the motorcycle from its bicycle heritage to be more like the automobile.

Its design was unconventional, incorporating a low, square-perimeter type chassis, its body acting as a cosmetic covering for the motor and drivetrain, while at the same time covering the front and rear wheel. A hub-centric steering configuration allowed the fork to be eliminated and the controls to be routed cleanly through the body. The rider could remain protected from the oily components, astride a pan-style, coil-sprung saddle.

While Roy’s Art Deco masterpiece would prove too extravagant for riders of its day, it continues to inspire the imagination of builders like Brian Fuller. In a small shop outside of Atlanta, Fuller recently introduced a truly one of a kind electric motorcycle–the 2029 Majestic.

An Electric Expression

Fuller Motor 2029 electric motorcycle

Art Deco detail

The 2029 project was commissioned by the Haas Moto Museum and Sculpture Gallery, a collection of more than 200 motorcycles located in Dallas, Texas. Owner Bobby Haas’ 1929 Majestic would serve as the muse for Fuller’s creation.

The foundation is a chassis sourced from a Zero FXS electric motorcycle. Sharing similar dimensions as the original Majestic, the frame was inverted to keep the batteries and motor in a low position, in line with the 23-inch polycarbonate wheels.

Fuller, a metal worker by trade, hand-formed the individual parts of the fully enclosed aluminum body.

The Majestic’s hub-centric steering system is key to its unconventional appearance. The wheel’s hub serves as the pivot point rather than the traditional headstock and is connected to the steering column through a tie rod. Fortunately for Fuller’s team, Bimota had used a similar configuration on its Tesi model, which would serve as a basis for the hub on the 2029.

From Lightsabers to Laser Beds

One of the most interesting aspects of the project was its use of 3D metallic printing. Bryan Heidt, Fuller’s lead metal fabricator, created the general design of the components, then sent them over to Nick Pugh, a transportation designer who’s done quite a bit of work in the movie business, most recently creating vehicles for the latest Star Wars installment.

High-tech foundation for retro design

Pugh’s artistic interpretations were translated into print-ready, 3D CAD models. A company by the name of Oerlikon went to work creating the titanium alloy parts using a process known as Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Metals (PBF-LB). It truly is 3D printing for metals–just plug in the design, select the alloy of your choice and layer by layer a strong, functional part is created just as the designer imagined it.

A Modern Masterpiece

A true piece of rolling art, the 2029 Majestic is also a fully functional electric motorcycle. Its 34 kilowatt motor is good for 78 pound-feet of torque with a 100-mile range before needing a plug in. While the 2029 may never leave its display stand, it’s nice to know it has more than enough juice to make a cruise to the local drive-in a memorable one.
